Hello, my name is Tanya.
I was born in Siberia, Russia, grew up surrounded by endless forests, rivers, green and yellow fields in summer and white, frozen surroundings in winter.
My favorite place was my grandmother's home in a small village in South-Western Siberia. The potato and sunflower fields behind her tiny mud-house were my playgrounds. Sunflowers were taller than me, I felt safe being there.
Since I was a child I had a passion to painting. During 4 years of Art School in my teens I have developed drawing and painting skills.
When I was 16, my family moved to Haifa, Israel. I fell in love with the sea and special Mediterranean light. That change has influenced my worldview, opening new cultural horizons. I learn new language and discovered new layers of my personality as an artist and human. Together with my dear friend Moshe Ron we had experimented with various media: video art, painting, performance, as well we had worked in our small studio called 'wetwo' where we created ceramic and wooden tableware. It felt as we were doing little magic behind a low green door.
My dream to study in Finland came true when I enrolled in the Arctic Art and Design Master's Degree Program in the University of Lapland, and now I have established my life in Rovaniemi. During the Master’s studies, my interests and artistic practice have expanded into environmental and community art. Through various workshops and projects with local communities, I got a chance to learn and experience local culture and nature.
Meanwhile, fascinated by the dramatic changes in light and colors during the year cycle, I fell in love with the North. At the moment, in the basis of my artistic practice and everyday life are nature, seasonal changes, traditional handicrafts and natural materials.
